Morley U9s v Sandal U9s and West Park Leeds U9s 05/10/2008
Morley U9s through to Yorkshire Cup finals
This week Morley U9s found themselves in the Yorkshire Cup qualifying tournament at Castleford. Morley's group included Castleford, Aireborough, Sandal and West Leeds. Only three teams could progress to the Yorkshire Cup finals in April.
In ideal conditions Morley faced Castleford on their home turf in the first match of what would be a busy day. Morley attacked from the off, piling pressure on the Castleford defence and despite Castleford's best efforts they were unable to prevent Morley's forwards taking the first points. Castleford were no push over and dug deep to counter Morley's attack. Morley's defensive play was just as good as their attack denying Castleford a try. Morley won the game 25 - 0. The Morley try scorers were Matthew Stringer and a fantastic four from Lewis Thomson.
Morley took on Sandal in the second game. Sandal had proved formidable opponents in the past and Sunday was no different. A fired up Morley fought valiantly against a large Sandal squad and displayed some great defensive play. The first half ended 0 - 0. Sandal had the start in the second half and began with an excellent piece of set play sending the Morley's defence the wrong way and allowing Sandal to get their first try. Despite Morley's best efforts Sandal were just too strong scoring another two tries before the end. The final score in this match was 15 - 0.
Morley were now in danger of not qualifying for the finals and had to win their next two games to guarantee qualification. Morley faced Aireborough in the third game following their defeat against Sandal. Morley had to pick themselves up and show what they were capable of. Morley didn't disappoint treating the travelling supporters to a fantastic display of team rugby. Morley comfortably won the game 20 - 0 with tries from Connor Stevenson, Zak Earnshaw, Noah Hawkins and Lewis Thomson.
In the final game Morley took on West Leeds and continued from where they left off in the last match, with some fantastic tackles, offloads and great all-round team play. Morley again kept a clean sheet wining the match 45 - 0 with four tries from Connor Stevenson, four from Lewis Thomson and one from Cameron Nielsen. Well done lads.

Morley U9s v Roundhegians 09/11/2008
Morley U9s travelled to the Memorial Ground this weekend for a two game contest against Roundhegians. Following the well observed two minutes silence both teams were eager for the game to begin.
Roundhegians won the toss and took the start, their large pack smashing into the Morley's awaiting defence. Morley were solid, stopping Roundhegians in their tracks. After a number of phases Morley stole the loose ball and began wave after wave of penetrating runs. Roundhegians defence seemed just as strong, but due to Morley's brilliant open play the space was created and exploited resulting in a 10 - 0 win. The two Morley tries coming from Conner Stevenson.
Morley started the second game and were determined to keep a clean sheet. The game bore a resemblance to the first, strong defensive play from both teams with Morley displaying the more inventive attacking play. After the break Morley dominated and clocked up another try. The final score being 15 - 5, the Morley try scorers were Zak Earnshaw, Joesph Thresh and Matthew Stringer.
