Marc Verhoeven
We have received the sad news that Marc Verhoeven has died in Sydney, aged 50, following a shoulder operation.
Marc joined us in 1984 as a 22 year old along with Ian "00" Woollet and stayed with us for 2 seasons. Following Ken Habergham's return to the UK, Marc and Ian were the first of several antipodean youngsters who came to Morley to add some Kiwi backbone and experience to a developing side.
Marc soon made himself a favourite with the supporters with his wholehearted commitment to Morley - even turning out in the annual Pantomime.
His talent was also recognised by Yorkshire. He won several caps as lock partnering Andy Fraser, and became an "Honorary" Yorkshire man.
On his return to New Zealand, he resumed playing for Wellington and became their most "capped" player.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Our thoughts and condolences go to Marc's family in Australia and New Zealand.
Marc's funeral is at 13.30 hrs this Friday at St Marys Church, North Sydney.
Marc's older son, Theo, is the point of contact and his address is:
