Morley U8s retain Yorkshire Cup

Thursday 14th April 2011

The Maroons U8s rounded off a superb season with a stout defence of the Yorkshire District Cup.
Double winners Morley were drawn in a strong qualifying group but recorded four straight victories
over Sandal, Wetherby, West Park Leeds and Moortown, to secure a berth in the final.

It was Morley's resolute and well organised defence that earned a second shot at the Cup in as many years,
as the team conceded only four tries en route to the final.

Ben Armitage and Ben Yates' strong tackling supported by Nathan Boote and Jamie Silkstone's aggressive
drives set up a comfortable win over Sandal. Kieran Knudson and Ethan Robertson's slick handling was
instrumental in wins over Moortown and West Park Leeds, so too was creative play and good offloading
from Archie Horsfield and Matthew Gilman.

The final saw the Maroons at their best with Joe Pyett and Matthew Ainley linking up to score the try of
the tournament. Man-of-match Edward Brown crossed the white line in the final minute to record another
famous win over their North Leeds rivals West Park, to bring the Cup back to Scatcherd Lane for another
year.
