Message from Mark Chester - NZ so far!!!!

Tuesday 11th May 2010

Hi to all.

Catherine and I are thoroughly enjoying our time in New Zealand, and have been following the progress of the lads closely.

We were 'chuffed to bits' to see we earned promotion, but a little sad we did not make it to 'Twickers'.

My rugby is going very well, I am kicking goals nearly as well as Billy (7 from 8 last week!) and am really enjoying the physicality and the fact that I have played against Crusaders in every game so far!!!

Next week we face New Brighton who will feature All black Isaac Ross!!!

In a week or so, Darryl Gibson (ex all black and Leicester centre) will be playing outside me and Justin Marshall will play for us on his return from Saracens!!!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

The only thing missing are our friends and family.

I would like to tell everyone at Morley that I loved my time there very much, and that I am very happy to have come to a club which reminds me so much of Morley.

You never know, I could return for a crack at National 2!!!!

Take care and please tell the players and coaches I have been thinking of them.

A Recent Match report from Sumner's website

At Rugby Park the Div One side faced Belfast . Div One wooden spooners for the last two years, Belfast were unquestionably targeting the new-comers as a beatable side, while the Sumner lads know this was their opportunity to get a win under their belts.

The first half was a rugged encounter. Belfast s grass-roots forwards toiled away, and an enterprising first-five kept the Sumner defence on their toes. Belfast scored first, before two Wave tries, each converted by former Leeds Premiership player Mark Chester sent the Wave into the break 14-7 up.

The second half was all blue and black. The Wave poured on the pressure, and Belfast buckled, their forwards running out of steam and the backs out of imagination. Three second half tries secured the bonus point, a final result of 41-7, and a glorious first ever victory in div one. Try scorers were Francis Smith with a brace, and Mark Bacon, James Ferguson and Sam Robinson, while Mark Chester nailed 7 from 8 attempts at goal. The match saw American Tim Kenefic and James Ferguson making their run on debuts, and Sam Toy and Stephen List their first appearances in Div One.
