U11s v Bramley

Morley U11s V Bramley Phoenix U11s Rugby Match Report - 23/09/07
This week's game saw Morley take a trip to The Warrels, home of local rivals Bramley Phoenix, with playing conditions just about perfect in the dry fine weather.
Morley began proceedings with a kick from scrum-half Joe Firth, deep into Bramley's half, only for Bramley to return and go on the attack straight away. But Morley defended well as a team, stopping all that Bramley could throw at them. Early on in the first half, fly-half Chris Sawicki cleared to touch or down field several times to relieve the Bramley pressure and full-back Sam Hood made a last gasp try saving tackle.
But, Morley also had their chances of attacking the Bramley half, using their organised backs with the two centres Ryley Wan and Alex Steveson combining well, only to find it hard to break down the tough Bramley defence.
Within the last five minutes of the first half, Bramley seemed to raise their game, finding another gear while Morley ran out of steam, resulting in three tries of which two were converted. It could have been four but prop forward Tyler Harrison produced another try saving tackle on his own line. Morley went into the half-time break 17-0 down.
After the restart Morley gained a lot of possession with their forwards'solid scrummage and line-out play, enabling their backs to try and break through the solid Bramley line and were unlucky to concede another Bramley converted try making it 24-0.
Morley kept going and a penalty produced a solo run from prop Luke Metcalfe only to be pushed into touch inches short of the Bramley line. But, with a little luck from the resulting line-out, lock Richard Hall managed to get the ball down for a Morley try. Joe Firth adding the conversion making it 24-7 to Bramley.
Coming towards the end of the match, Morley let Bramley have a soft try, with very poor tackling being the culprit from several of the players. But, overall this was a good team performance against a much larger and physical side.
Morley's man of the match was the whole team for a well balanced forward and back display.
From the spectator's point of view this was an excellent game of flowing rugby with both sides playing their part in showing how the game should be played.
